About the topic:

This 2-day seminar provides an overview of the various work fields methodological approaches in the area of reliability engineering. It is well suited as an introductory seminar to the overall topic of “Reliability Engineering”. The mathematical fundamentals necessary for further understanding are laid on the first day of the seminar. After that come the first steps in calculating system reliability. The second day of the seminar begins by dealing with the qualitative and quantitative reliability analysis of systems. This is followed by the introduction to reliability test planning. The seminar concludes with a look at the analysis methods for the evaluation of complete as well as censored data sets.


Training content:

Day 1

  • Conceptual fundamentals and background
    Reliability and quality, bathtub curve, reliability process in the development project
  • Mathematical approach to reliability
    Basic concepts of statistics and probability theory, important magnitudes, mathematical descriptions of reliability with service life distributions, Weibull analysis of failure data from life tests and loss statistics with practical exercises, confidence ranges, reliability characteristics in contractual and functional requirements, system reliability
  • System reliability
    Approaches to system reliability analysis (ABC analysis, tiered structures, algorithms)

Day 2

  • Methods of reliability test planning
    Test planning on the basis of the Weibull distribution and binomial distribution, life-span ratio, generalization for failures during the tests, Bayesian approach, consideration of prior knowledge, accelerated service life testing, Step Stress Testing, time acceleration factors, Highly Accelerated Life Testing, practice in test planning on a  binomial basis
  • Reliability data analysis and strategies for shorter tests
    Complete trials without time compression, possibilities of reducing testing costs, evaluation of censored data, Sudden-death testing, evaluating components in competing failure mechanisms
